Privateer 2: The Darkening Enhancement Patch
--------------------------------------------
by Matt Wells.

This patch was created for the Windows version (Deluxe Edition) of the PC game "Privateer 2: The Darkening".
It requires Windows 10 or above.

This patch also seems to work well with the DOS to Windows Deluxe Edition Patch. Which can be found here: "https://originalthp.solsector.net/privateer2win95/".
When installing the "DOS to Windows Deluxe Edition Patch", you won't need to install "HCL's Privateer 2 Enhancement patch". You also shouldn't run the "LAUNCHER.EXE" that comes with the patch but instead run "DARK.EXE" to play the game.

Installation:

Extract the contents of this zip archive to your Privateer 2 Install directory.
You may wish to rename or back-up the original "WAIL32.DLL", as this file will be replaced by this patch.
The necessary included files are: ddraw.dll, p2_dark_en.ini, WAIL32.dll and MSS32.dll.

You will also need the libvlc 3.0.21 dll's. A minimal install package can be found in the Releases section of the project page at "https://github.com/mattwells77/Wing_Commander_III_Enhancement_Patch".

Extract the contents of the "libvlc_min_pack_3.0.21.zip" archive to your Privateer 2 Install directory.
The necessary included files are: libvlc.dll, libvlccore.dll and plugins folder.

The "p2_dark_en.ini" contains some optional settings, details of which can be found within the file.
The patch is expecting a complete hard drive install. If you intend to play the game from CD's set "NO_CD=0".

Run the "DARK.EXE" to play.

Enjoy :)

Notes:

Input Setup Screen:
Press "Alt + J" in game to evoke the "Controller Setup" utility. Here you can map game actions to your controller/joystick and mouse, as well as re-map most keyboard functions.

GUI Keyboard Control:
The original game had very patchy keyboard support in the main GUI. In this patch the game can now be fully navigated with controller/keyboard. Use the arrow keys to change the cursor position, movement speed can be increase by holding down the "CTRL" key. The "SPACE" key is used in place of the mouse left click (select) and the "TAB" key is use in place of the mouse right click (cycle hotspots). In some instances the "RETURN" key is used eg. when selecting a highlighted item in the Load Game list(this is the original behaviour).
The cursor movement speed key can be changed in the "Alt + J" config screen.

Controller / Mouse remap functions:
Press "Alt + J" in game to evoke the "Controller Setup" utility. One recent addition is the ability to map different functions when in menus and other 2D screen (GUI) or when flying in space. In the Controller and Mouse sections you will see several tabs labelled GUI, Space, Remap 1, Remap 2 etc. GUI and Space should hopefully be pretty self-explanatory. Among the Space button actions you will find some functions labelled "Remap 1 (hold to enable)", "Remap 2..." etc. Pressing and holding a button defined with one of these will allow you to reuse many controller/mouse buttons for other purposes which you can define in the Remap tabs. The purpose here is to limit the need to use the keyboard if at all and potentially play the whole game with just a controller.
