If

An if statement has the form

  if (expression) then statement

Note that () around expression are required. If expression is 1 (true) then statement is executed.
An if statement can also have an else clause. The statement in the else clause is executed if expression evaluates to false.

  if (a=5) then 
    b := 1
  else 
    b := 2;
