    Tolwyn's plan for Blair

This is the biggest thing, I think. The entire point of WC4 was that Tolwyn had kind of lost it, and the once noble officer was now willing to resort to crimes against humanity because he was certain they were right and necessary and even noble. Tolwyn might have thought Blair and Eisen...

Wing Commander in the modern age

I'd be really surprised if we ever saw a major FMV game in the near future. With games like Starcraft II, among others, succeeding with "full motion video" except that it's animated instead of filmed, I think no studio is going to pay for actual actors and sets and film, when they can pay what...

    Crew Sizes and the Exeter

I doesn't surprise me that space warships might have smaller crews than one would expect from looking at comtemporary warships. In a spacecraft, every person you add is another person you have to worry about providing oxygen to, another person whose waste you have to dispose of, and another bit...

What would a "completed" Behemoth look like?

Just going on memory here, but I'm pretty sure the reference to the Confederation class being turned away from (0r at least, to having the PTC removed from it) was in Victory Streak (the WC3 manual). And that it was definitely related to a problem with the PTC. In fact, until I read the added...

    Accuracy of WC3 Materials

So I've been looking over all the neat source materials that come with the GOG WC3 release. I have an eye to make a WC3 version of my Excel WC1 ship comparer, so I'm looking at ship stats. Unsurprisingly, the different source materials don't entirely agree when it comes to ship stats. Some...

    Operation Serpent

The other issue is that, if it was really that easy to stick a bunch more turrets and a hangar on a transport, why did no-one do it before? Both Confed and the Kilrathi were running transports for years in highly hostile situations (far more dangerous than situations posed by pirates or a few...

    Old-ish game search

I"m tempted to reply "Why bother? Just play Master of Orion", but I know that's not the answer you're looking for. :-) Disclaimer...I happen to think MOO1 was arguably the best PC game ever made (I know, heresy on a WC board, but to be honest I've spent a lot more hours of my life playing MOO...

    Accepted to Flight School!

Congratulations! From what friends and relatives of mine who are fliers in the services (one Coast Guard, the other Air Force) tell me, you don't pick your own callsign. Your squadron mates do, usually based on the most demeaning, stupid, or embarrassing thing you end up doing during flight...

    Problems? Post them here...

It doesn't have to be frustrating. There is a trick to beating, well, at least the first half of it. (The second half you're on your own...you just have to be a damn fine flyer). I won't give it away completely, but I'll give a hint...he is wise who knows when to fight, and when to scare a...

How many of us are in the Armed Forces?

I tried to serve...was accepted to Annapolis and then was disqualified on a medical technicality that I didn't even know I had until the "inspection injection neglection and see-lection" stage. So instead, I got an advanced engineering degree and now design advanced weapons and other...

    Operation Serpent

Love the general idea. I've often thought a "hunt down the last of the Black Lance" would make a great storyline for a mod.

    Arjak's Combat Log

Don't give up! Brimstone is a very tough system. You're in the Scim, confed's worst fighter, up against Jalthi and Gratha, the Cats' best fighters, and have Maniac on your wing, which is actually worst the flying solo! The first time I played through Wing Commander I wound up in Brimstone and...

Claws Bloodied and Victorious (October 2, 2011)

Gothri, definitely. Fast, maneuverable, killer rear turret, and was a threat to capships so you couldn't ignore it. The Grikath and Vaktoth would be closely tied for second in my mind.

    Arjak's Combat Log

Arjak, I agree it's really fun to re-experience the game for the first time through your eyes. Please keep posting. Another piece of advice on missiles. In WC1, the missiles aren't usually powerful enough to take down a fighter with a single hit...it usually takes a missile and a few gun...

    Arjak's Combat Log

Welcome to the game! Always good to see a friendly ship! :-) One piece of advice...don't overuse the restore game option. You're right that the branching missions is a great feature. And if you lose some missions, you get losing track missions that are in many cases more fun than the winning...

Is WC3 via gog.com really ready for prime time?

Out of curiosity, how did you fix the first 3 of your four issues? Or where did you look to find out how to fix them. I'm having the same issues.

A question for the musically inclined wingnuts out there...

There most certainly is such a thing as A# major, but it involves using double sharps (all seven tones are sharped, and three are double sharped). Which are theoretically possible. (A# B# C## D# E# F## G##). However, most people that want to write in that key would simply write in Bb major...

The lack of strategy in Wing Commander

Illanin...I love your videos. Your dry delivery is perfect. Only problem is...this video that you linked to isn't "Lashing Out". It's either "Rearguard Action" or "Holding the Line" (not sure which), the mission one flys immediately after "Lashing Out" (where you have to escort Clydesdales...

The lack of strategy in Wing Commander

I just wish there was some way (in every Wing Commander game) to tell the damn bombers to stay the hell back until we've actually had time to thin the fighter cover and clear some turrets. Or, at the very least, for the mission planners to launch the "wild weasels" with a 5 to 10 minute head start!

    I've finished....

I second this. I played every mission in the game when I was making the branching guide (usually on several different difficulty levels), and I thought, on average, the losing path missions were more fun than the winning path missions. Four of my five favorite missions in the whole game are...
