The Third D is for Details, Technical (June 21, 2026)

Here at the Wing Commander Combat Information Center we love old magazine articles about our favorite series... and our beloved type, by far, is ones that come from 'professional' periodicals. Case in point, here's a great article from the June 1999 issue of Computer Graphics World that details...

    OriginVerse Timeline, v1.2

Metal Morph uses the same cutscene for the ship jumping as Privateer (created for the latter)! Knights of Legend is another one that ties back to Ultima, Seggallion travels from that game to the middle Ultimas. You can find Chris Roberts in Ultima 5 and he'll tell you he's working on making...

    ADG Post on WC II

Oh awesome, thank you! I get stuff from the staff@ address and I never saw it... my apologies!

    OriginVerse Timeline, v1.2

By design, time works differently in Ultima with the different worlds moving at different speeds... but just the Wing Commander references are going to confuse things a little! - In Super Wing Commander, we see the Avatar flying through the Ethereal Void. That means that Wing Commander I (2654)...

    OriginVerse Timeline, v1.2

    Ooh, and Metal Morph! 2219.

    OriginVerse Timeline, v1.2

Pretty cool project! You could add the other two Strike Commander tech spinoffs, Wings of Glory (1917-1918) and Pacific Strike (1941-1945)! Privateer 2 is 2790 (I know some older sources online say 2789, this was in error).

Wing Commander Movie Night: The Song of Roland (June 22, 2026)

The Wing Commander movie club has successfully carried the One Ring to Mordor… or… half way there, at least. But we're not leaving 1978! This week, we will be watching The Song of Roland (1978), a French film about medieval knights which stars Klaus Kinski! It seems to be celebrated in France...

Lost Treasures of the Wing Commander IV Demo (June 20, 2026)

The Wing Commander IV demo was released online on October 19, 1995, a full four months before the game finally shipped! As a result there's some interesting things in the demo that are a little different from the final game... so we thought we'd take a look. We'll start with the controversy...

I just finished Wing Commander 1!

Yeah it's super fun to think about. Ultima is probably the closest! You can find a Kilrathi ship in Ultima VII, the Avatar flies by the Tiger's Claw in Super Wing Commander... Britannia (and some of the other Ultima places like Pagan) are systems on the WC universe map... and there's a bunch more.

Privateer 2: Can't complete mission "Davis & Co. Armaments and Supplies, Nerve Weapon - Part C"

Tri-System League of Hunters seems like it's intended to have a lose state where if you leave the 'path' you get a fail message... but I don't think it actually works.

I just finished Wing Commander 1!

Awesome, I'm glad you liked it! The later games will have much more character-driven stories... but you'll see you also lose something in gaining that, they end up with less of the freedom that's pretty neat in WC1 (any wingman can die at any time, more losing missions than winning ones, etc.)...

under the radar games that I think you wingnuts might like

I think I know exactly how you feel right now; I lost much of my sight after dozens of eye surgeries years ago. They were able to save okay vision in one eye but the other was a total loss (like the Concordia). Made me mad at the world for a long time! But hey: if you need friends through this...

The Great Old Magazine Scan Rodeo (June 18, 2026)

Well, howdy partners and welcome to my rodeo! I love searching the Internet Archive for classic articles mentioning Wing Commander almost as much as people love uploading classic articles mentioning Wing Commander. Sometimes I strike gold and discover something worth a whole CIC update... and...

After Action Report: Dumb and Dumber (June 19, 2026)

The Wing Commander movie club has made the trip from Providence to Aspen with Dumb and Dumber… and we were kind of surprised by how gentle the movie comes off today. I had never seen it and assumed from the pedigree that it would be an outrageous, cutting edge sort of a comedy… but if anything...

GOG has Troubles, Deals (June 17, 2026)

UI Alone Love You (June 16, 2026)

Here's an interesting comparison: three PR screenshots of Privateer each from a different press junket! You can easily see how the UI evolved over the course of about 18 months, with particular changes to the radar and how the VDU displays thumbnails of enemy ships. -- Original update...

Wing Commander Movie Night: The Lord of the Rings (June 15, 2026)

The Wing Commander movie club's official position on Dumb and Dumber was that it seemed a lot tamer than any of us remembered. Comedy really seems to be the genre that ages the fast… and sadly, we're getting old! That said, we're going back to the 1970s this time around… to the first major...

Newbie here, is Wing Commander worth playing in 2026 with M&K or Controller?

Welcome! If you love Origin games then Wing Commander should be a no brainer. It's a huge part of the "Origin mystique". Another great thing about Wing Commander is the community. We're small these days but everybody here has such good hearts.

Refuel. Rearm. Repeat. (June 14, 2026)

Fuel storage has always been a limiting factor for aircraft. The need to land and refuel determines an aircraft's range and capacity, which is especially important for military aircraft. Bombers, spy planes, command and control platforms and anything intended to serve reactively benefit from...
