Cool! Thanks. So if the same system was carried forward to the Wing Commander era, then firing a DF or a torpedo would be "Rifle", a Javelin HS would be "Fox-2", an ImRec or a FF would be "Fox-3". They would probably want to introduce a new code to differentiate between an ImRec and a FF...

Does this terminology show up in any other Wing Commander properties... any of the novels or anything? I think you're right in that they included it in Prophecy because ID4 had recently popularized it.

So in Wing Commander Prophecy (or maybe it's Secret Ops, or perhaps both), I recall some of the radio chatter from your wingmen includes hearing calls like "Fox 3!". I've heard this before in war movies, but never looked up what it meant. I just did, and found out that in current times, it is...

That makes sense. Especially because “ninjala” is embedded in the filename! Sorry. Should have looked more carefully. Well, shout out to Klavs and NinjaLA! Awesome artwork!

Quite a few years ago, it must have been, I found this really cool Wing Commander artwork and saved a copy, possibly even from this site. My computer just randomly picked it for my desktop background. I'd forgotten all about it, and don't know who created it or even what ship is it supposed to...

Thanks. In hindsight, duh. :-) Thanks for all your help. Looks great! Looking forward to jumping in again.

Thanks! That mostly worked! Nice work! Only... the videos now play as interlaced (i.e. every other line of pixels is black). Changing the Deinterlacer=1 keyword in wcpunl.ini has no effect. I confirmed that the videos downloaded and placed in the movie folder are not interlaced; when...

So my teenage son just watched Top Gun for the first time, and it got me wanting to jump back into the cockpit (and maybe let him do so too). To that end, I thought I'd get Prophecy running with the high res videos advertised above. Except getting them working is escaping me. Sorry for what...

Thanks! So Iceman died (or at least was shot down) a month and a half after the Claw was destroyed, and at some point after that, Blair brings back his body. Given that timeline, Blair's comment about not flying a combat mission in 10 years isn't inconsistent even if flying the SAR mission...

The recent thread about Jazz got me (re)thinking about something. We all know the story of what happened to Michael "Iceman" Casey, from Hawk's stories to (the younger) Casey in Wing Commander Prophecy. After Hawk had a crisis of confidence, Iceman signed on as his wingman and flew with him...

“And I nearly did. Spirit was so easy... ...and I only had four to go...you, Angel, Paladdin and Maniac...” But what about Hawk? Why wasn’t Hawk on Jazz’s hit list? (I mean, is there an in Universe explanation for this? Obviously, Hawk’s character hadn’t been invented when WC2 was released).

So I just dug through the Game Guides on this website. If frequency of use matters, the most flown fighter (in terms of number of missions it's available in) in all of the 5 mainline games and their expansion is the Panther, at 41. But I don't think of the Panther as the "iconic" Wing...

Interesting. I can see the logic as (1) it's the first fighter the player ever flies, (2) it has a very recognizable shape, and (3) it is pictured (or at least its cockpit is) on the cover of the first game. However, it only appears in at most 13 missions, all in the first game and its...

Was thinking about various science fiction franchises involving starfighters (as I'm sure many of us here do), and about how most of them have an "iconic" fighter...a ship that kind of represents the franchise. If you were going to make a poster about the franchise, you'd probably put a picture...

Wait... someone had tried to staunch her wounds? That could only have been Hobbes... anyone else would have reported finding her injured. So he delivered a fatal blow to her, and then tried to give her medical care?

I don't think it's that crazy that there would be a TCS Gettysburg out there that wasn't a Gettysburg-class ship, and in service while there were still other Gettysburg-class ships also in service. The exact same thing happened with WWII aircraft carriers. Twice at least, that I can think of...

I was first introduced to Wing Commander in 1992, when a High School friend sold me this exact entire pack (WC1, SM1+2, WC2, SO1+2, and the speech pack) for $50 flat. (He'd bought the whole thing, liked it, but then moved on to X-Wing). Other than the boxes being a little flattened, everything...

Reason why I voted for the Lance (aka "Dragon") -- one word: Telamon.

I was pretty upset when Arena came out, mainly because it was released on a single platform. I had been a die hard Wing Commander fan since adolescence, but was a cash-strapped young adult who had just invested in a PS3 and wasn't about to buy an Xbox 360 as well, just for one game. I didn't...

To me the biggest mystery of WC3 is why they took the personality overlay video explanation out of the game. I know the given reason is "because there wasn't room on the CD", but it seems like you could have shortened up or eliminated some of the transitions cutscenes that we all turn off after...
