Another possibility is the music playback program issues a MIDI reset (or equivalent, All Notes Off) after the file plays, thus working properly in game, but being off when played outside because of the hung notes. It's likely the case since the playback may need to aborted at any time so the...

If it was originally designed for MT-32 then it would have to be played on an MT-32 - it may contain MT-32 specific SysEx messages that program the MT-32 to play it properly. (A MIDI file is nothing more than a series of MIDI commands). MT-32 predates the General MIDI standard, and if it...

Did you get a dryer plug installed in the garage or just using slow charging?

Where's the ludicrous mode reaction video? :)

Thanks! I didn't have to make the text larger today!

Actually, the Game Genie never changed in-memory values. It had no access to the system or work RAM in the console. Instead, the codes would patch the cartridge ROM. This was because it sat in-between the ROM and the system, so every time a code matched (which was done by address matching), the...

Yeah, I always wondered why they still called the 3.5" disk a "floppy" disk. Of course, I grew up with 5.25" disks since I was the one with "the computer" (aka, Commodore 64). Later on my parents bought a PC, but it was rarely mine to use (I needed permission to use it). I also remember...

Well, it looks like you could install new games ("GEMs" - game enhancement module?), so if you can find them, you can add them. I know the Mac community was generally well connected - there were even plenty of shareware CDs that were distributed on a quarterly basis which made pre-internet...

Makes sense, really, given the box has to stand on its own. The people who would buy it are probably teenagers who would've been far more fascinated by the scrolling wheel and watch gimmick than a simple table printed on the box. And the added cost is really a few cents - a few extra die...

No, the real reason is the PS4 is a games machine, not a media machine. Sony is a backer of the 4K UHD format, but they intentionally did not want to support it because they did not want their PS4 to handle media. It's why its media playback functionality is non-existent (Yes, it's there, but...

I never got the hang of these stickers... they always ended up as a big mess for me. What's the trick?

Nice. It's a pity he didn't try using a proper GM synth other than the crap known as Microsoft GS. Even though Microsoft licensed it from Roland, they cut practically everything out of it. Even for a 2MB sample bank, it sounds like crap (the MT-32 is 512kb, and SC-55 I believe is also 2MB and...

I suppose the question now is what did you get HER?!

I still have mine - from the very LIMITED time the CIC actually sold them. It's awesome.

Apparently the brother of Matt Burch. Ambrosia Software was probably one of the biggest Mac game developers back in the day - they had some of the slickest Mac games that weren't just simple ports of existing games, at least back then. I remember playing a ton of Escape Velocity back in the day...

Oddly, I have the same kit, but my kit came with a 5x drive and the whole "Dynamic Xtended Resolution" branding all over the door. Though I admit I bought the kit later, it still came with the WC4 DVD.

I always wondered, since the error strings were re-written internally, in theory, one could see those error messages after playing Wing Commander and then doing something else. So if you were playing another game, if it caused the same EMM386 error, it would print "Thanks for playing Wing...

As long as it's regular soap, none of the anti-bacterial crap that creates more problems than it solves. And it doesn't get your hands any cleaner.
