I used the cd-to-dvd compilation patch/installer which also includes gulikoza's dxmcia patch - the one I referred to as mci->dx hack above. Neither do I, to be honest - it's been interesting journey finding out.. When wrapping a couple hundred functions, some things tend to slip by...

A couple more missing entry points later I'm throwing in the towel for the dvd version; it's simply doing far too much I don't know about and don't care to figure out at this point. For the curious, here's a snippet of my wrapper log. Format is: [delta time from last line]("this" pointer)...

Next missing entry point: CompleteCreateSysmemSurface, which seems rather undocumented..

Next it wanted directdraw7, which means this'll take some doing. Assuming it's possible at all.

Analysis so far.. the when wc4 is supposed to play a dvd clip, it basically shuts down, changes cooperative mode, and then hangs on DirectDrawEnumerateExA, which is not an entry point my wrapper supports as of yet. So, this'll take some digging. In any case, when I tried the game without my...

I thought I had downloaded the hires moviepacks correctly, but this was unfortunately not the case. So I won't be debugging this tonight. Hopefully tomorrow. I don't expect it to be a big hurdle - most of the things I've found have been relatively simple to fix.

Sigh, I guess I'll have to install it too then.

If someone would be so kind as to test whether the latest version of ddhack works with the wc4 dvd version, I'd appreciate it. I'll run through the game in the cd version first before trying to upgrade it to the dvd one.

http://iki.fi/sol/zip/ddhack08.zip The frozen render was due to a "change CD" prompt, which was done in a very.. let's say, frugal, manner. I tweaked the GDI graphics output, which fixes this issue and also makes the savegame naming work a bit better.

This one sure is full of surprises. Controls reset to keyboard when going on a planet mission and when returning from a planet mission. This I don't think I have anything to do about. After jumping to the mesa system the rendering seems to freeze. *sigh*

Like promised, here's first version of ddhack that supports wc4: http://iki.fi/sol/zip/ddhack07.zip - Wing Commander 4 support - 8 and 16bit videos work, ingame works, walking around works - Known issue: the "briefing text" screen blinks until it asks you for keypress: I haven't...

Like me, you mean? The glitch will only show if you have a monitor on top of the desktop one, showing negative Y coordinate space of your windows.. Because the face consists of about a hundred blurry pixels? =)

Kilrathi saga owners: beta testers needed

..that means if someone has two monitors on top of each other, they'll see the top of the ddhack window, but why me worry?

Heh, instead of creating a new window, I kludged it by making the window 480 pixels taller; GDI offsets to the upper left corner, OpenGL offsets to bottom left corner, so that (along with fixing mouse coordinates and stopping wc4 from moving the window) is all it took.

That depends on the video format.. if it's some kind of a blocky format which interpolates between values, the 24bit image might actually look slightly better. In any case I would have expected the format to be 5:3:5:3:5:3 instead of 1:5:5:5:8 =) I don't know how this should be able to work...

So.. managed to get the gdi data copy magic going. The GDI output still blinks every now and then, so I need to see what I can do about hiding the original window and creating a new one.. And yes, it always blinks if I take a screenshot, as shown above. =) The image is (naturally) scaled...

Yes, verified it. I'm amazed, but that's what it looks like - the 24 bit mode is actually 15bit with some padding.
  18. sol_hsa

Kilrathi saga owners: beta testers needed

More bizarre things. It seems 16bit video is in fact 15bit, and the 24bit mode is the same with a zero byte padded after every pixel.

Kilrathi saga owners: beta testers needed

Heh.. tried -true_color; it tries to set up a 24bit mode, not 32bit, and my modern graphics card says no thanks =) Amazing.. so, the game falls back to 16bit. And naturally it only affects the movies, so in-game palette is still messed up. I was half hoping the whole game would run in truecolor...
