This is not directly related to modeling, but it is related to scaling, so I'm posting it here in case somebody finds it useful. The Sorthak has what appears to be its cockpit on the edge of the 'wing'. I was curious as to how that would work. The Sorthak actually has two lengths. The...

Goodbye Richard Riehle (October 19, 2026)

It might even have helped his performance: slightly capricious space wizard who can take away your toys is a more interesting character. Did he ever give any interviews about his role?

I don't know what Howard's methodology for scaling the ships was. His last thread is still on the front page of this board. He modeled the Broadsword here.

Goodbye Richard Riehle (October 19, 2026)

From a gameplay perspective it was probably meant to showcase the morale system: make Pliers happy and your ship flies better, make him unhappy and it flies worse. This was another attempt to tie the gameflow sequences more directly to the actual gameplay, instead of the more abstract...

I got your message. It looks like modern web browsers have dropped support for the Unity Web Player. That's annoying. You can try downloading the project file and opening it directly in Unity (I have not tried this).

I've noticed that these sort of making-of videos often get very big very quickly, and as far as I can tell it's because they're reaching an audience that don't really care about game development, or even games at all. They want something cool-looking to watch and don't really care about the...

Howard also did a Concordia hangar mockup which could be useful for reference.

It would be helpful if there were a license that explicitly forbid AI training, but then right now the largest source repository openly says that it will do that and that there's nothing you can do about it. The law doesn't matter because AI companies are violating it by using the data of...

Happiness is a Warm Gun (October 13, 2026)

Gillian Bonner is fascinating. The LA Times did an interview with her a few years after the game came out: 27 years later and this is where we are now. This type of game is almost mainstream now, but it wasn't in 1999. The Sims was still a year away. The advertising side has not come together...

Isn't the publicly available version the later edited edition instead of the original release?

I guess this is a good time to ask: where are you getting your models from? Are they also from Thingiverse? Howard Day released a Hornet model many years ago. Klavs also redid his Hornet to be considerably more faithful to the original design, as well as the Rapier.

Having followed the last thread I can certainly understand that. I do think you are over scaling the ships when compared to the pilot references that we have. Look at the Rapier:

The reason I specifically recommended Howard's model was because he modeled in the launch tubes on the side of the ship as you can see here: The fighters still look too big. Here is the Hornet, for example:

Instead of making the carrier bigger I would make the fighters smaller. Their official lengths are already twice the size they're shown in-game. I would also suggest that you get in touch with Howard Day and use his model as a base as it's had a considerable amount of thought put into it.

    3D Printed Privateer ships.

We actually do have another scaling source for the Talon, and again it doesn't actually come from Privateer. This is from Privateer 2. The game also had a spaceman model which I've put alongside it.

The Next Excalibur (June 30, 2026)

As I've said before it would be good to have a centralized fan works repository the way we have a centralized wiki for official works, both for preservation and attribution. I didn't even know Klavs had a model archive until I was looking through the archive. It's not his only legacy or his most...
