My instant impressions:

Good God that's f***ing brilliant!!!

My instant impressions:

It screams conflict, Vikings and aliens. It's dark, fast and angry. Rrrrrrrr.

The LOTR and Beowulf connections are clear, but IMHO Ron Perlman should be more recognizable given the recent trailers for Hellboy II, which I believe are truly breathtaking.

watched the trailer a few more times.

OK, I just watched the trailer a few more times.

It's very compelling, so many intriguing elements. I've seen enough trailers to know that they can often misrepresent or at least distort the theatrical release that they are designed to promote.

What I've seen here is only a hundred seconds, but I want more. . . the beast, the ships, the weapons, everything.

Smile outlander trailer

Hi everyone,
For some strange reason I don't seem to be able to view the trailer. Which sucks big time since it sounds cool. Any idea why it isn't working for me? Thanks.

Hi there, what browser are you using? I appologize for not checking compatability.

Also you will need to make sure you have a flash player installed on your machine.

[EDIT: Works ok In Safari, Firefox, and IE7 for me]

Ron Perlman is there in the trailer but you are right in that I'm not sure most people will recognize him at first, especially since I don't think they put any of his dialogue in the trailer.

[EDIT: He's the big one smashing some poor bloke's head in with the two hammers]

it looks cool but was oh so short. my initial reactions are 1) caviezel's voice sounds hoarse and otherworldly. barely recognizable. 2) no sophia myles which is confusing. females may want to see this too and it'd be nice to see some kick ass chick sword wielding people to death. 3) i know it was only 90 seconds but advertise the names of caviezel, perlman and john hurt somewhere in the trailer.

all in all it did a good job portraying itself and wetting the appetites to those that want to see more. it'd be nice if american movie sites can pick up on this (comingsoon.net, aintitcoolnews, dark horizons etc..) to give it as much publicity as it deserves. maybe word of mouth will spread and force the weinsteins to show this movie here in north america.

Yeah, it's a little odd that it doesn't really name the actors, but In some ways that lets the action and story stand out more and lets the actors disapear into the roles. But it does seem odd that they didn't show Sophia. As an interesting side note, I happen to have here the most brief clip of sophia hacking some poor fellow with a sword... It's barely more than a second or two long though.

The trailer is pretty much in vein with the Poster though regarding not mentioning much beyond the executive producer who probably did help out quite a bit to focus the concept art and stuff like that, and the scenes in the trailer are amazingly close to that concept art. Stilll, it's also an international trailer so a domestic campaign would probably focus on the more familiar elements... we'll see I guess.

Also word is already spreading in some circles...

can you elaborate on the spreading in some circles quote? also do you think there would be that much difference between an international trailer and a domestic one? if so why is that so? thanks, look forward to your feedback and also from those lucky enough to see it these next few days.

Hehe yeah, but there's also stuff like that in the credit scrawl at the bottom of the poster. That isn't uncommon for international trailers that get cut by the distributors in those regions.

I was watching my stats counter last night and out of curriosity seeing where notes were posted about the trailer with links back and there's genuine excitement among some genre fan communities.

Someone even posted a story to the Hollywood stock exchange site. Twitchfilm has a short post about it and that's generating a lot of hits at the moment. Twitch is fairly high profile in the movie blog world and they get a lot of international movie news.

Oh god...

You do not know how happy I am to see some posted footage of all the hard work that went into this movie. The wait has been long but the outcome at first glance appears incredible!! The monster is incredible and cgi work on set is bang on.
I CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE MOVIE!!!!

Nice catch - saw it many times and the brain didn't pick it up. That's a MAJOR mistake, I hope somebody feels bad. Unacceptable and totally bush league.

So besides the online keen, where is this trailer seen, I wonder?

And how can I send it to my freinds?

My guess is that some non english speaking european cut together this trailer. It's most likely playing in theaters in eastern europe right now... That would explain the typo's. That kind of thing isn't uncommon on international posters and teasers.

And.... Email away:

Looks great except for the cheesy CGI and Greenscreen.

This movie HAD the potential to be the next Predator or Alien, but it won't be.

They should have had a guy in a suit instead of the CGI if budget was a concern.

I am from Newfoundland, and had such high hopes for this movie, but think I am in for a
let down.....sorry.

Awesome Trailer

I watched it over and over and the intensity is incredible...What movie do I have to see just to catch a glimpse of this on the big screen...I don't care if it's a chick flick... as if they would ever premier this in that format...just making a point. It's amazing!!! the wait was well worth it ...gonna go watch it again...thanks guys for bringing this to us.

For the most part, I think it's pretty early to judge the CGI from that low res trailer. That said I didn't really see any shots that stood out as bad. I have a higher resolution clip of that burning planetscape somewhere around here and it looks pretty convincing

Thumbs down Are you Serious ?

What a bunch of crap, i cant believe that the studio allow films of this caliber to be made. i saw the entire storyline within the trailer ... so that's over a years work, hundreds of man hours dedicating themselves on a film that i can tell you the ending in 1min36 sec's .... absolute bollox

its so frustrating the amount of dire scripts that make it into production ... i can basically sit on the toliet on a saturday morning and dump out better material that this film .......

I doubt that this film will barely be able to tread water at the box office

that's pretty amazing. AD were you the first one to bring this trailer to light? or did you catch it somewhere and brought it here? Interesting point of view....however.

This trailer doesn't tell the whole story...and I will not fall for people looking for spoilers. WAIT UNTIL IT DEBUTS IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS

For Sure! Of course the movie might not be for everyone and different people have different tastes but I can't stand that kind of cynical, judgemental attitude when people haven't really seen the film.

On another note, I - maybe naively - thought today couldn't possibly be busier. But we already have over 11000 unique visitors today and it's only 9A.M. I almost feel a little embarrassed that I haven't finished renovating the back rooms yet.

This movie looks amazing!!! It may not live up to Newfie CGI standards but with all the amazing VFX houses in Newfoundland I'm not surprised. For the rest of us with lower standards, this movie is going to rock! ;P

Hi Avery, welcome to the forum.

Also, this seems to be getting a ton of great attention. I hope it gets the release gears in motion finally. On top of the 10000 or so that watched the youtube version I had a lot more visitors today than I expected I'd get:

Insane!

I was for all intents and purposes the first one to bring it to light. It was once I brought it here that anyone actually took notice. Folks like the recently joined Avery Guerra have been posting messages around the web and trying to get word out. I did a little forum hunting and emailing to kind of try and direct things too but I somewhat avoid starting threads about it other than at the IMDB or Sophia Myles or Jim Caviezel fan sites. But I do post to other forums threads where I feel I can add something that might be needed to direct a conversation appropriately.

I'm sorry, I haven't really come accross any info on when the movie will come to Japan. I know the movie is supposed to be released in Korea by a company called J-net that I haven't been able to find anything about. But the biggest help we could have is someone who can actually speak and read Japanese keeping their eyes and ears out for info. I end up having to rely on crappy google translations for info. India should have the film around the end of November. I would imagine Japan, if it already has a distributor should get it around the same time. But it might not have been picked up for that territory yet either. Seems like just the kind of thing Japanese people might really dig though.

As for switzerland I think Frenetic is distributing it but I haven't heard anything about what their plans are.

AD, I just wanted to say here that you have done a heck of a job not only with this site, forum and everything included. Its been awesome being kept up to date and as a Jim Caviezel fan and moderator/poster at Jim's websites and links, its been the best anticipated way to wait for an awesome flick and interact while we wait out this film!!!:-)

Im coming here daily now and thrilled to see all the hits your website is getting! Keep up the great work and soon we'll be able to see this rockin' film!!!!!!

I was an extra in the movie and I have to say that the trailer looks great. We (the other extras) were a bit worried that the movie had a bit of a low-key feel but the post-production work has totally sorted that out. I'm really excited now.

There's loads of great set-pieces which don't appear in the traliler at all so don't judge the movie on the trailer alone.

For those who are concerned, Sophia Myles appears in the movie quite a bit and she's lovely.

I said I was FROM Newfoundland; not that I still lived there.

FYI...I actually worked on the original Predator.

Nice smartass remark about The Rock, by the way.

Obviously, you have never been there.

As for lower standards, I'm sure some of the fanboys will enjoy it.

Ok, keep it civil both you dudes. It's a simple fact that, like almost every movie there will be some people that just won't like it for whatever reason.

Also my point still stands that I don't think anyone can judge the CG from the trailer alone. Most of what I saw looked pretty good though even at that low of a resolution. All the CG guys I've talked to that work on the film seem pretty proud of the work they did for this film too even though they can't really show it publicly themselves yet.

Another amazing day. Today's 15000 isn't as much as yesterday but it's still more than Fridays pretty awesome 11500! I expected this kind of drop and I doubt I'll get a day as big as Saturday was for a long long time, if ever...

and around 18000 have viewed the main youtube version but a couple thousand others are spread out between at least 12 or 13 other youtube copies. And a lot of sites are hosting their own flash versions... I'm also pleasantly surprised that in general the cynicism is at a minimum and people are really positive about this tailer (other than the hilariously awful typo)

speechless

Yes, I'm speechless... Never thought something so ridiculous in story, looks, plot, directing would come to the big screen. Feels like a cheap video game so ridiculous this trailer makes it to be. And notice I'm not talking about any technical aspect, for they might very well be up to good standard, too good I'd say for these premises. Time to give the world to cockroaches if cinema has fell to that.
If you're on the technical crew, good for you, if you're on the producing and creative crew well... (well, hope you got good money out of a mercenary project for churning out this, because it will be buried as soon as it came out, hopefully.)

It wears the skull of its dead mother on its head. When it becomes lonesome, it is said to cry loudly.

Character names

Funny thing about the names, Ron Perlman's character is Gunnar, same name as mine, and Sophia Myles is Freya, old typing form of Freyja, my girlfriends name. Also James Caviezel or Kainan as he's called in the movie is supposed to speak Ancient Icelandic in the movie, one of the main attraction for me to see it, since I'm Icelandic
