C&C3 Demo Released!

EDIT: That should be "C&C3 Demo Released!" for the subject line.

The demo includes one tutorial mission, two single-player missions featuring live action video sequences, one skirmish map with three different difficulty settings, and one trailer featuring Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, Michael Ironside.

I haven't played it yet and don't think my laptop's integrated graphics will be up to the task, but have heard some initial, positive buzz on another forum already.

Cheers,

Bryn

I played the demo and I loved it, I can't wait for the full game. But did anyone else think it was kinda weird that Fileplanet was offering to reserve the demo for the past few weeks? Its not like they can run out of copies or anything.

Probably wanted to grab as much users to download the demo as they can . Quite weird of them to do that.

This games success has a lot of importance for the future of the next big WC game I believe... FMV sequences with professional actors (some of which are relatively well known) in a video game are few and far between. Most seem to just rely on CGI with voiceovers.
I'm hoping it's a big success.

It felt like Command and Conquer, just faster... Yeah and Michael Ironside rules.

My suggestion, if you like C&C try the demo NOW.

It's a huge download and many servers have been overwhelmed with the load. I believe what you're reserving are slots with a high bandwidth allowance.

I have been hearing many positive impressions about the demo. The FMV parts are supposed to be high quality and the gameplay seems solid.

I wasn't expecting much from this game, but I was absolutely floored after booting a skirmish mission.

The game is ridiculously gorgeous. The applied some kind of filter that makes it look like a movie or something. Seriously, the game is completely awesome on a GF7800GS.

With the little time of gameplay I've got, I can say that it's indeed C&C to the core.

There is a neat trick for playing the skirmishes with NOD. Just press "N" after you click on it.

Oh, and the special edition will include the FMV bloopers... alà WC3.

I'm suprised that it actually works smoothly on my *piece-of-junk* pc at 1280x1024 , though at low detail (my configuration: Celleron 2GHz 512RAM, Radeon9000). I was sure that hardware upgrade will be necesarry before I'll be able to play it.

btw I already love this game. Let the Mammoths roll !

But why run at such a high res? you could take it down to 1024 and crank up some of the effects.

Yes, I'm running it at 1024x768 with better fx. I just wanted to share my experience, that game can still work fine on older hardware . On the other hand I believe it probably looks much better in full detail and that I unfortunatelly cannnot afford. That's one thing I like about all the games from EA I have. You don't need a high-end computer to play them, but still if you have one you can tune up gfx to maximum.

An excellent game. I've just now put down a pre-order at my local EB - and I cannot wait.

Is anybody else having audio sync issues with the GDI Prolouge FMV's?
The intro plays fine however with the briefings, although the video moves without stuttering, the audio lags 1-7 seconds behind.

I have an AMD 2400+ 2GHZ, 128mb RAEDEON 9250 with 1GB of RAM - the game runs fine (though a tad slow when there's like 100 units traversing the field) on 800x600 with all details up full, and okay on 1024x768 with medium effects. It's strange because like I said before the intro works fine...

I get the same desync effect . I thought it might be the codec, so I downloaded actual versions of audio and video codecs but it didn't help. So now I have no idea what may cause this . Rest of the game game works fine.

Did any of you guys play Battle for Middle Earth 2 on the Xbox360?
Reviews of that version were mixed, and the two games seem to share the same engine.

I got it last week. The menu system for accessing units and structures works really well. Selecting single units (heroes) takes a bit of effort because the triggers are less accurate than a mouse. Most of the time you work with battalions, however, and they're a big enough target for fast selection. Shortcuts like 'select all units of this type' and 'select all on screen' should be more useful in C&C than they are in BFME. Based on my experience with BFME I'm optimistic for C&C on the 360.

I downloaded the C&C3 demo five days ago... took nearly 9h00 but I got it.

It's great. Plain and simple fun, I love it. It has different visual setting options so you don't overwhelm your PC. I tried playing a tutorial with all the visuals set on hight... very taxing on my machine but oh boy does it look good. I'm afraid my 5year old PC is starting to show it's age.

I whent over to the forums on the official C&C site and some of the things people are saying about it ... brutal. To read some of the post you'd almost think EA was giving them crap.
It's not the same kind of concerns that have been expressed on WC ARENA (different genre) but they do parallel eatch other, IMHO. freedom of expression I guess...

Anyway the DEMO is awesome and the gameplay is very solid. love those orcas.

I've had it for probably 3 or 4 months and I like it in a lot of ways and also have some problems with it. Kris hit the biggest problems right on the head. Without zooming in to try and select a hero it can sometimes be a task in a melee.

Gameplay is fairly solid and enjoyable, although the campaign left me desiring more and to be part of the more major encounters.

I'm curious to compare the two versions of C&C when it comes out.

Yeah there are a lot of idiots posting on the C&C boards lately, complaining about everything little thing in the game. They really don't have anything though, their latest complaint is that the friggin train tracks are like modern ones, whereas the Tiberian Sun ones looked futuristic. I mean come on, train tracks?

EDIT: How did you get it so early Dundradal?

So early? I thought I had picked it up after it had been out for quite a while. I was talking about BFME II, not C&C3.

I think I got it in december or early january.

Yeah, over at some other forum I saw people complaining about the shape of Arena's radar. They acknowledged that'd it'd function differently due to the different perspective, but the shape really made them mad. I guess they didn't like how the circular short range radar and the higher level square radars were positioned relative to each other or something.

Its unfortunate, because both C&C 3 and Arena look very promising to me in their respective series. I think there are too many people who jump in to put them down for no other reason than that they are made by EA.

I have to say that EA has gone up a few notches. I love this game and I've only played the demo. Great piece of work and hope to see more FMV games in future...*crosses fingers hoping for a WC with FMV*.

I would expect some to make it at least.

The PC version comes out this week.. Fry's has a very tempting sale: $38 for standard and $48 for the Kane edition.

GameSpot has posted a video showing off how the camera works in the XBox version. http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/stra...67235&mode=all It's exactly how I want it, with live feeds of your friends at each corner of the screen.. so I guess that's still the version I should get.

I finally got around to playing the demo today. The game itself looks really great, but I was taken aback by how awful the FMV is. Sure, the whole thing is amazingly high-res, and the props and sets are pretty nifty, but the acting and the script, they're just plain terrible. It's like all they ever do is talk business, and it leaves the actors with no room for anything more than dull recitals about how NOD is up to no good (duh!). Why couldn't they have a plot with actual people, something like what StarCraft had done? I mean, WC3/4/P had more than a few bad exposition scenes, but this is all bad exposition. Does the story get better in the full game?

That's to be expected from the C&C series

Well GDI has a job to do, and they get down to business.

You probably would get a more "personal" story with the NOD side since it's not an actual military power. Just a huge terrorist group.

XBox version is out now! Controls are pretty decent. Some stuff is better and some stuff is worse than the PC setup. The camera support is pretty great.

Looks like fun! I haven't tried out the MP yet, I want to finish all the campaigns first. Just finished GDI last night and I have to say Chris you were right after the missions in the Balkans there were a few that were really, really hard.

That goes for everything. The entire internet is great until other people get involved.

Cameras are better than microphones. People feel more self-conscious and less anonymous.

Camera support might spell the end to the tradition of crazy naked gaming, or vice versa.
