Do you have about five hours to learn about Ultima Online? Then we've got great news for you! YouTuber Majuular has continued his two-year journey through the Ultima series with a very compelling (and very, very long) look at Ultima Online, the massively multiplayer game that essential kicked off the genre but has never since been equaled. Majuular makes the case that Ultima Online was like nothing before or after… and then then proves it by playing on a vintage server and encountering many of the same emergent gameplay-style situations that made so many of us love the game at the time. If you played Ultima Online back then, you're going to have a good time watching this; I kept smiling remembering things like randomly deciding to hunt Walruses with friends, or finding a perfect Zapp Brannigan cosplayer wandering around Trinsinc. EverQuest and then Worlds of Warcraft would perfect MMOs into a series of addictive loops… but Ultima Online gave you a living world and the freedom to apply your imagination to it endlessly. It really was something special.
