Hello!

I have a few questions about the music of the original game.

  • Occasionally during mission debriefing the losing music plays, although the game treats the mission as accomplished with the winning lines appearing and the game flow proceeding in the winning path. Is that the game's way of telling the player that more could have been done in the specific mission e.g. dispatching an ace or taking down more Kilrathi? Or maybe is it a way of letting the player know that their wingman did more than they did? Though in my opinion this doesn't make sense as the player and the wingman (save for Maniac) work as a team.
  • Has the surf version of the opening music actually been performed live e.g. at a gaming event?
  • Is the Fat Man (no body shaming, this is his professional alias) himself singing here?

PS If you think this post belongs to a different thread, please feel free to move it.

I think the music is just bugged occasionally in the debriefings; I'm not sure it indicates anything about your performance when it's wrong.

The live surf theme recording you've heard was made at a party at Winter CES 1991.

The lullabye is Fat man singing.

Thanks Ben! I was frustrated a few times when the mission failure music started playing at the debriefing, only to be relieved and puzzled when the winning lines showed up.
