Indeed, usually the bursar's office is at the main administration building. Given Masterson's connections, it would make more sense IMHO if he was head of Oxford's security. That would also explain why he would want to keep an eye on who is walking in the library and he would have access to funds.

Yes, me neither Ben! Right, now that you mention it, I recall something about the protagonist being kidnapped, but it's been years since I played Privateer 2. Speaking of our protagonist, do we know how he got his name? Does Lev have something to do with Leviathan? Arris sounds like the ancient Greek god of war, but that would be Aris or Ares I think.

I actually asked Diane Duane about this! Arris didn't have any special meaning - she started with Harris and found it from there.

Lev is a clue in the game itself, it's an anagram of his real first name Vel.
 
For future reference, I just found an archive site where someone plays DOS-era games with extensive commentary and youtube videos. WC1, SM1+2,WC2, and SO1+2 are there. I stumbled upon that site while looking for Raptor art, as I feel it doesn't get much love!
