Ok, I just ran through the game (most of it) and everything checks good (passed the Behemoth mission just fine). I noticed that the ENABLE_CONTROLLER_ENHANCEMENTS is set to 1 the hole time. Except for 1 mission that CTD'ed. I switched to 0 and got past that 1 mission, but with 0 enabled, I can not config my joystick. The Joystick worked well enough though. I just couldn't bring up the config for it. Set the ENABLE_CONTROLLER_ENHANCEMENTS back to 1 and everything went great from then on. Thanks for all your help guys. A complete reinstall did the trick.

If my memory serves me right, I used to have an issue in WC4 and maybe WC3 too where the control settings would get reset after any mid mission cutscene. My thinking before was that the game was treating the parts before and after the video as a separate mission and the controls were getting reset. I wonder if that's the core reason for this happening.

@Jhook: Glad to hear you got through the game without to much trouble. It would be good to know in what mission were you getting the CTD, if you remember.

This patch is nearly perfect ... For WC4, it is 100% bug-free.
For WC3, however, it is only *almost* perfect...
There is still one minor issue: if you collide with an enemy ship in a particularly unfortunate way during gameplay,
the game crashes immediately
and this has happened quite often๐Ÿ™‚

Updated the wc3 and wc4 patches now at versions 0.14.2 and 0.9.6 respectively, links in the first post. The most noticeable difference in the current versions is that I've scaled the targeting HUD elements in line with the rest of the HUD, so they will no longer appear tiny at high resolutions.

That brings me to the other thing I wanted to mention.
I've been exploring the random crashing issue in wc3 and I think I've isolated the functions involved, but no fix as yet. For those experiencing crashes I've added an option to the "wc3w_en.ini" that might be useful to help debug the issue. If you add the line "PRINT_RANDOM_CRASH_REPORT=1" to the "DEBUG" section. An extra section "Random Crash Report" will appear at the bottom of the "wc3w_en.log" file. It would be useful to know the function address mentioned after a crash, if any. The one I always get is 0x478B7D, I'd be interesting to know if you get a something different.

Great. I have installed the new version yesterday and added the line to the wc3w_en.ini and started a new playthrough. Letโ€™s see what happens.

Awesome work with the HUD scaling. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ One of my little nitpicks solved. ๐Ÿ˜‰

@Mash I'm curious to know how the Windows version renders the 3D ships. Is the rendering handled entirely by DirectX, or is the ouput image still calculated by the WC3 software-renderer? I'm just wondering if it would be possible to replace the 3D objects or textures with high-resolution versions. if WC3 is still using the intern renderer it would be not possible I guess?

Weird, GitHub did not notify me of a release. Probably Microsoft doing Microsoft things.
That might be because I tend to modify the existing release for the small stuff, instead of creating a new one.

Still using the original software renderer I'm afraid. That's where the those random crashes in space were occurring, it was occasionally going out of bounds when sampling the object texture. It would be a really big job to convert this game to true 3D.

Hey Mash ๐Ÿ™‚
could you please explain how I can change the music?
I created a folder named "Music" in the WC3 directory,
but I just can't get it to work properly in the "wc3w_en_alt_music.ini" file.
Could you give me an example of how to enter it correctly?
It would be great

update:
i did it !!!
WC1 & WC2 Soundtrack in WC3
sooo perfect

This is absolutely brilliant. You need a medal for this. You ever look at Prophecy? The game looks and runs beautiful with all the enhancements and model upgrades but for the life of me I cant get those high res movies to work or the vob versions for that matter. Any time I did get them to appear there was no sound. Windows 11 user

Grim took care of that for you already. Works a treat:

giving this a go as it looks ace - however - how do I force it to retain 4:3 (and preferbaly integer) I know theres switches for DOSBox etc, but I presume as this is Kilrathi Saga based/Win 95 they won't work?

Thanks for any help

Bappy

actually ignore me, I had forgotten to add some dlls, including the libvlc ones - got it running now - having trouble configuring joystick but I think ill get through it :p

OK can I just say this is incredible - I would be very happy if some form of 'frames in between' or even motion blur could be added, as obv playing on our progressive LCDs feel very strange compared to my beloved old idek iiyama VisionMaster.

But even in its current state, I am blown away and cant wait to finally replay this, IV Priv 2 and Prophecy for the first time in like probably 25 years at this stage.

I'm also atm replaying Freelancer with the great Freelancer HD mod, and afterwards I intend to join that new server mod thing people have made :)

Indeed it does. Many thanks to all involved with making this happen
