There was no digital audio in WC1.. And even WC2 used digital audio only for speech.. And probably for the better, I don't think my sampled weapons would do the gameplay any good.. (On my 386sx I also turned them off for X-wing, since firing the guns or a passing fighter would "freeze" the game...

My guess is the resolution was fixed at 640x480. You can try to use some tools provided by your videocard or monitor manufacturer to help "stretch" the game. In my experience it does not look good and I would opt for the black bars on the side.

Well, I do believe most of us check in at least once a week. Ofcourse most of us have a life next to playing 20 year old games, and those of us who do not are busy playing 20 year old games.. :D

FM cards could actually produce more then descent sound if you composed a score just for them. The best examples I can think of are Taito's RamboIII and the original Golden Axe. Anything beats the PC squeeker though.

Maybe he's talking about the registry entry used for enabling compatibility modes on Windows 2000SP4? That should not be needed on XPSP2 or higher versions. He's using windows 8.1, he has the compatibility setting option from the get go. I ran that OS on a laptop for a few months and had no...

Well, you have a lot of valid points, but let's not forget that software wavetable was also a thing, making it's way into later games(I'm not sure but I believe wing commander 3 actually featured digitised drums for playback, combined with FM synthesis. I replaced my FM Card for a Gravis...

Also please install Discord then for an open-wing comm... I'll try to refrain my gaming buddy from speaking dutch on the comms.

You can set other limits on rendering using software rendering agreed, but that makes the game look like it was done in the Duke Nukem 3D engine... Yes, there is a mission select cheat in SL, and also one to make to make all ships available. However I prefer the thrill of the game actually...

About to turn 41 here, purchased the damn thing on discs 16 years ago when it came out. Did not finish the campaign without cheating until today, with a wingman to handle the second bomber wing on mission 21. You did use the settings like I advised a page back? Those should restore ALL the...

Finished the co-op campaign within a week my old gaming buddie, ran the patches on vanilla windows 10 installations with opposite hardware(AMD(270X in crossfire) on AMD 8-core in 1440p vs Nvidia(970) on Intel 6-core in 4K), ran the game on medium difficulty, had to replay 4 missions multiple...

The game installed and ran through ISO files I kept on my home server for all my games from the CD-scratching days... It ran unmodified, but from reading up it should not because of the Safedisc DRM. It did though... welll "I'd buy that for a dollar"... There are more inconsistencies with the...

Well, appearantly the NOCD patch also negates the DRM issue, and is needed because Windows10 else will not be able to run the game?

Hi, I also came across the pcgamerwiki. but I did want to avoid the starfield/nebula issue since it really does jump in the eye... I also wanted the game to look good again.. The game does support modding appareantly, but the internet dropped silent for this game as far as mods go. And the...

Right, bumping ancient thread... Managed to get the game stable and applied some tricks to make the game look like you remember it: Running on windows 10 x64.. Like ReadyRed started out: PART 1, stabilizing the game: 1. Do a full install from cd 1 + 2 2. Download imagecfg (google: imagecfg...

I just heard that in Kevin's Sorbo's voice... :D If a remake would occur, there will very likely be some influences of "these days", such as the possibility to CHOOSE the gender of the protagonist, and likely it will involve social media, selfies, etc, to make it more relatable to a modern...

Khasra the epic basslevel test for your run of the mill $60 early 90's speakers... :D ...I do get linked to the wrong movie clip I think..

I actually expected an article regarding Mark Hamill's 65th birthday...

Reinstalled it to have a go at it again this weekend... Maybe there's some graphical glitch I'm missing. When running standoff for the first time, it appeared on my second screen, with about 2/3th of the game screen on it, and the last bit offscreen(not on my primary) I tried to solve it by...

I liked it, like a movie from the bottom shelf in the VHS days.. We are the US, let's just blow everything up with nukes and/or guns! the shield with the queen really did not make sense!
