Here's a neat touch that I only just noticed in Privateer. The 'look' of your radar changes slightly depending on the software manufacturer: Iris, Hunter and B and S.

In general they match the way the radar units physically look in the Software Booth at all sector Ship Dealers.

It's one of those things where you wonder how many people really noticed then. I'd guess most people just went from the basic Iris to the B&S Omini without any stops inbetween. That's what I did for probably 90% of my playthroughs. I'd guess in the first two or three, when I had no idea what I was actually doing, that I purchased one of the other radars.
