I’ve noticed that a torpedo always misses its target by a wide margin whenever I lock onto a capital ship and try to fire it—it flies in the exact opposite direction, so to speak, instead of heading toward the capital ship. its not normal 😆
And that in WC3 and WC4

Damn, never noticed this before. This seems to be caused by the increased max refresh rate. In "wc3w_en.ini" if you set "SPACE_REFRESH_RATE_HZ" back to its original value of 24, torpedoes should work correctly. I'll see if I can find a work around for this but I may have to drop the default refresh rate in the next release.

I still have not started my planned playthrough of WC3. Good news for me, thank you for testing and finding this.

Hey Mash... I wanted to ask if there’s any way to get the native DOS versions or the Win95 version of Wing Commander 3 & 4 running at 30 fps—maybe via some kind of patch?
After getting used to your perfect enhancement patch, the standard DOS versions feel unplayably choppy. It would be absolutely brilliant to have the original DOS version running at 30 fps instead of the stuttery 24.
Just an idea... and a hope haha 🙂

Hi all,
New versions of the wc3 and wc4 patches are up that fix the torpedo problems at 60fps. In the process I also found and fixed the overly fast death spiral of destroyed ships at 60fps. Links in the first post, current versions 0.14.7 wc3 and 0.9.10 wc4.

It's probably possible, hacking DOS programs is not something I'm well versed in. Like the windows version the DOS version would also suffer from the ship rotations issue at higher fps, meaning there would be a lot more work to get it playable than just modifying the max fps value.

I only asked because you’re the absolute expert in this field... A few days ago, I tried out the original GOG version of Wing3—just for fun—and was appalled by the miserable performance under DOS... Your absolutely perfect patch is now the only way to play Wing3 & 4 properly... anything else is simply atrocious. 😊

The new version of your patch is very close to perfection... there is nothing left to criticize...
Just Amazing
For me personally, this is the most important WC patch since the OpenGL upgrade for Prophecy 👍 👍

Hi,

Bit of an FYI, I've been trying to get the Privateer 2 Enhancement Patch to run with the deluxe edition and all seemed ok (movies worked, PADD worked) until spaceflight at which point the game would just freeze. Well I managed to pin the problem down to a utility I was using MIDIMapper which was configured to use a Yamaha software MIDI synth. When I switched from the Yamaha synth to VirtualMIDISynth everything was fine.

Something to bear in mind if you've been playing with MIDI synths for other retro games and Privateer 2 stops working. Haven't tried it on WC3/WC4 yet to see if the same problem exists.

WC4 doesn't use MIDI as it was the first one where they switched to all recorded music. WC3 used MIDI, but the Kilrathi Saga switched to the WC4 style music so you won't have this issue if you are using the KS version of WC3 either.

I'll make a note on that under Troubleshooting in the read-me. I intend to add the option to select a midi device at some point, still working out the details.

Many continued thanks for the continued work, got some GitLab-Notifications this weekend 😊.

While I realize that there might very well be an NDA involved, I cannot help but notice these recent updates are improving XInput-Devices first and foremost, which lines up crazy-well with what we have recently learned about WC3 30th Anniversary, which claims to have community improvements anyway. May I thus ask you if you are involved in that project 😉 in any shape or form? Just utterly ignore my question if you are under NDA, no hard feelings.

All three patches have seen updates recently, links in the first post. Better support for XInput gamepads is the main addition. For Privateer2 I've also added the ability to change the selected midi device via a drop-down menu on the Controller Setup window.

I can confirm I've been collaborating on Wing Commander 3 with Jim Vessella and EA, but that's all I can say on the subject as I'm bound by an NDA.
The recent XInput addition to the patch was actually a user request. In hindsight I really should have built this in at the onset but I'm old and not really up with the thumbstick generation.
