Without resorting to crazy math, if you hit on something like 1.85:1 which is more or less a standard theatrical aspect ration you're probably in the ballpark. The original resolution of the PC videos (which don't always match the cropping of the DVD version) were 2:1 if you pretend it used square pixels (which it did not) but the old VGA standard would do some vertical stretching. The DVD version probably has a fairly accurate aspect ratio to not distort the picture out of the box, and when you crop the letterboxing off the 4:3 aspect VOBs from the DVD you're left with something pretty close to 1.85:1 which is just a tiny bit shorter than 16:9
