I don't know what Howard's methodology for scaling the ships was. His last thread is still on the front page of this board. He modeled the Broadsword here.

Hey Rap,
if you like those fighter models, they are from Klavs81 - here is the forum link and here Hangar B productions. Hi also did an AWESOME jobs on all those models - I think especially the fighters of WC1 will look great in a bigger scale like 1/72 :-)
Big shoutout to Klavs81 and Howard :)

also here you can find Klavs81 updated Concordia - still the original design but a bit pimped up :)

if you like simple models or would liket to go for smaller models, Tyrellohr on Cults might be an alternative pick: Terran & Kilrathi ships are available. For free and some for some bucks

I know I need to organize them, but a thread about 3D-printed Wing Commander and now mentioning Klavs *rip* deserves these making a reappearance. Some will need reprinting in the future, especially those that got damaged in the moves:

And yes, I did print up some of Klav'sCap Ship's too.

Great collection.
Am I right in thinking there’s no consistent scale for your models?
They all look nice and big and remind me of my 1:72 MD F-18 Hornet.
Did you only use freely available model files?

I did my best to scale them around 1:72 or 1:48 (it's been a while and I have to measure them again), though some definitely came out smaller (especially the large Kilrathi fighters, which are consistently huge). As for sourcing, the Klavs designs are based on the model packs he released years ago, and I later reformatted them for printing. I never released them back then because he asked me not to, as he still sold several of them on Hangar B. Since his passing, I have debated releasing the STLs but haven't, out of respect for our friend. A handful are from Thingiverse, but the Prophecy Models are from the enhancement project that I then converted to STL (with permission). The same for the Banshee, which I requested from the designer.

Your collection already looks pretty good!
When comparing the sizes of the universes, do you mainly rely on the official specifications from the manuals?
I primarily base my scaling on the cockpit and the pilot’s height.

I printed the CF-117 Rapier from Hangar B Productions on Sketchfab at about 1/72 scale, but I haven’t quite finished it yet.

Since I haven’t heard back from “Howard Day” about his Claw models yet and don’t want to compete with “Laughing Man,” my next big project will be the Concordia.
I’m currently planning to build it at the classic military ship scale of 1:700.
Sure, the Concordia will be a relatively large model, but sometimes the journey is the destination.

This is not directly related to modeling, but it is related to scaling, so I'm posting it here in case somebody finds it useful.

The Sorthak has what appears to be its cockpit on the edge of the 'wing'. I was curious as to how that would work.

The Sorthak actually has two lengths. The Kilrathi Saga manual lists it as 38 meters, the same as the Paktahn, so I scaled it to that length. For reference I put the Privateer 2 spaceman model next to it, scaled to 188 cm. As you can see, a human would just barely fit sitting down, and Kilrathi are much larger than humans, closer to 3 meters,

The other size is derived from the extracted game model itself. The mesh is scaled to 110.492 units in length. Are those meters? Probably, because the Arrow is 19.2 units and that matches with the stated lengths. This is a much more usable cockpit, although a Kilrathi would have trouble standing up. The Sorthak is between a fighter and a corvette, but at least as far as its cockpit is concerned, it's much more of a fighter. Probably the pilots would be strapped in and not move around much, like they would on a larger ship.

Incidently, the 3DO port has a completely different model where the cockpit appears to have been moved to the left fuselage.
