I was wondering just how many Yorktowns were still kicking about when the Terran-Kilrathi War finally came to an end. Someone recently told me the TCS Victory was the oldest Confed carrier at the end of the war(no source given), which, considering she's CV-40 and Lexington is CV-44 and in all likelihood, not the first Concordia-class, doesn't leave a lot of room for other Yorktowns and I was under the general impression that there were more than 2-3 of them pressed back into service.

That's a very good question. I don't think we really have a good idea how many there were… but I would bet on a higher number. You can pick out at least a dozen of them in the cutscene where the fleet has gathered at the jump point leading to Kilrah at the end of the game!

I don't think the idea was ever for the Victory to be the oldest or the only one; certainly the narrative intention was that the TCS Liberty mentioned in the Wing Commander IV intro was another one… and the story being told there was that ships like the Victory were being taken out of service everywhere.

There's a line in the Wing Commander IV novelization talking about the post-war RIF that says wWe sent the 40 series CVs to mothballs and another eleven thousand highly trained people to the breadlines." Surely a case of the authors not knowing Wing Commander IV would have a CV-44 and -48… but I'd take it to mean they retired a whole group of Yorktowns when the war ended.

Thanks! Thought that number seemed a bit low, and I kinda figured none of the surviving Yorktowns would be active post war as I can't imagine they would've had much life left outside of use for repatriation.

Always thought the author meant the Victory's class when he said the 40 series rather than CVs 40-49 considering most classes don't neatly fit into a ten ship block IRL.
