Wing Commander Movie Night: MYSTERY FEATURE (November 2, 2026)

Happy birthday! The Wing Commander movie club is two years old this week! On November 8, 2024, we were all feeling pretty lousy about the state of the world on Discord and so I suggested that we watch, what else, the Wing Commander movie together. We had such a great time talking and joking...

Wing Commander Demo Packaging Scanned (November 1, 2026)

Here's a neat blast from the past… the very beginning, even! Mkdud, the savior of 3DO flight sticks everywhere, has found and scanned the paperwork that came with the original Wing Commander demo! They write: "Neat WC History, here are scans of the original WC1 demo sleeve. This was sitting in...

All Hail the Deviant Weirdos (October 31, 2026)

I love checking DeviantArt for new Wing Commander fan art. There's an endless churn of AI pictures of sexy Kilrathi and erotic drawings of My Little Pony to sift through... but when you hit on a great Excalibur scene or a ship from CountvonSchnaps it makes the check worthwhile. And then there's...

Is there a WC convention? I would love to attend!

I don't think there has ever been a Wing Commander convention! We used to talk about it back in the 90s, though. And we used to do a get together at Dragon*Con each year, but we haven't done one in quite a while. And Star Citizen's first "CitizenCon" was planned around a screening of the Wing...

After Action Report: Terminator 2: Judgement Day (October 30, 2026)

It should come as no surprise that the Wing Commander movie club loved Terminator 2: Judgement Day. We were, after all, all about eleven or twelve years old when it came out. It's very interesting comparing The Terminator, which we watched two weeks ago, to this movie. I'll maintain it's a coin...

Reminder: #Wingnut Movie Night Tonight! (October 30, 2026)

This is a reminder that we have another fun #Wingnut movie night planned on Discord this evening! The ongoing theme will be movies that are referenced by Wing Commander in some way. Tonight's film is The Beast Must Die (1974) and you can find details on why we're watching it in the announcement...

Wing Commander Movie Night: The Beast Must Die (October 26, 2026)

Happy Halloween! The Wing Commander movie club had a great time finishing up our Terminator journey with Terminator 2 and now it's time for something spooky! In honor of the holiday, we've chosen something called The Beast Must Die (1974). Apparently it has a part at the end where the movie...

A nostalgic revisit of the Gemini sector

Yeah I wouldn't want that either. I need to better spec this out, but what I'd really like to see is a web app with three layers: a 3D map of the entire galaxy, 2D maps of sectors and then variable pages for the different systems. So the ones in Gemini would have your incredible level of detail...

Privateer Command Line Switches Found (October 25, 2026)

Here's a neat discovery: one of the groups working on an AI remake of Wing Commander Privateer made a great discovery during the course of their work: some of the secret command line switches used to QA test the original game! These allow a player to jump from the DOS parser right to any...

Goodbye Richard Riehle (October 19, 2026)

Vidmaster's feelings about Pliers are super interesting to me because I think that's actually how the writers expected a fair portion of players to react. I think the big failure of the Pliers mechanic is that the average player hano good motivation to lower his morale. So it's designed to rely...

Goodbye Richard Riehle (October 19, 2026)

    No that should've read Glory.

    Animations aplenty

I believe 4 is Earth and 5 is Kilrah. (I think they could've known what Kilrah was going to look like in Wing Commander III at that point, but it must not have been anything anyone cared about at the time.)

    Animations aplenty

Yes, the planets exploding are the campaign endgame flicks. They're MIDGAM4.VGA and MIDGAM5.VGA in DATA.TRE. The Origin FX page I linked to has a list of what cutscenes the module plays, so it's a good start for having a canonical list of what Origin considered to be one of these cutscenes.

Wing Commander Movie Atlas (October 8, 2026)

Earlier this summer, we put together a quick 'atlas' of Wing Commander Academy that shows how consistent the locations are in each episode. Well, the natural next step is to take a look at the interstellar locations in the Wing Commander movie. You might be surprised by how much thought went...

    Animations aplenty

Origin extracts all the animations great! A good starting point for this might be Origin FX's list of what it considers to be a Wing Commander II cutscene: https://www.wcnews.com/wcpedia/Wing_Commander_II_(Origin_FX_movie) There's a new Privateer cutscene where you discover the derelict! It's...
