Hello. I'm planning to dub the voices for either Privateer or Strike Commander. Is it possible to extract the voices from speech.tre and repack them?
Thank you 🥰
Great! I'll prepare some voices for the first mission tomorrow. We could do a little test.I just confirmed that originator can export all the speech for you (tools -> Bulk Exporter).
If you get to the point of having replacement speech I'm sure we can help you repack them.

I'm 99% sure I figured that out though.
C:UnmakeTree PRIV.TRE
C:MakeTree PRIV.TRE.SCRIt would be wonderful if you could get it for Strike Commander! I would be eternally grateful.I wrote a Privateer TRE repacker a while ago for my own experiments, but a PAK repacker is also necessary. I don't think reliable tools for either are currently released anywhere. I realised with Privateer (and Strike) TREs the ability to read them does NOT equate to the ability to write them...I'm 99% sure I figured that out though.
I'll see if I can put something together; polish up my TRE repacker and have a go at a PAK one - they'd be good tools for the community to have - might not be until the weekend though!
They'll be specific to the Strike-era games, e.g. Privateer, Strike Commander... Later TREs were completely different. Origin and EA loved reusing the same names for formats (and even engines) even though they had little in common.![]()
).OMG! Thank you so much for your hard work!Quick update; I made some progress over the weekend, but it'll take a bit longer. Repacking PAK/VPK is a bit annoying.
My tool will also handle converting from/to appropriate VOC from WAV automatically, with modern resampling - should get the highest possible quality (still won't be great though).
I've noticed that the male bartenders' dialogue is in VPK files, and the female bartenders' dialogue is in VPF files. I assume it's the same file type...I'm almost there... As usual it's become a bigger project than I initially planned.![]()
Essentially yes; the extension does indicate some specifics about the file content/encoding. VPK and VPF are both just "Voice PAKs" though - maybe the different extension was just to keep things organised during development...I've noticed that the male bartenders' dialogue is in VPK files, and the female bartenders' dialogue is in VPF files. I already have many files prepared. Will your work also work for other games like WC2, or only Privateer? Just two things left to do on this tool, then I'll release it.![]()
Eventually I want to wrap it all back into Originator but that's a long-term thing. You're right, I've managed to successfully replace some of the voices in the WC2 intro. Thank you very much.I believe everything you'd want for WC2 should be already supported by WCToolbox. The tool I'm working on will support Privateer, Strike Commander, Armada, WC3, WC4 and Prophecy.
I just need to finish WC3/4 support then I'll release the first version. It'll only support conversion of a few internal formats (e.g. Privateer/Strike voices via WAV, IFF in a generic sense via XML) to begin with, but I plan to improve that over time.Eventually I want to wrap it all back into Originator but that's a long-term thing.
