Joystick can be tough, especially in WC2. From my testing, I have a (Saitek Cyborg Evo) I needed to restart my computer, connect the joystick, calibrate in Windows, then open the game with the joystick connected. Using the in-game Calibration has never really worked for me. If you connect the joystick while the game is running can cause joystick drift and sometimes stay glitched until the computer is restarted. Though, this is not a real fix or anything but just the steps that worked for me. I am working on a joystick wrapper for another project but still early days.
Thanks Destro sounds very eccentric, I'll keep that in mind if I troubleshoot further!

Update: Got controls to behave by setting my RH flight stick as the 'preferred device for older programs' through windows' game controllers dialogue box's advanced settings. Never needed to touch this before as all my configs are usually handled by my sticks' config utility.

The thing that was confusing me was how all my devices could be unplugged or hidden and Wc2 would still freak out. But with the setting mentioned above I can have everything connected and mouse works as normal, with the RH stick used sensibly for flight control.

Playing Wing Commander II in the enhanced version, I have troubles with the mouse and the keyboard.
Clicking the mouse one time skips several dialogues in the cutscenes. Using the space key is working.
Firing with the mouse in combat sets my guns often to autofire. I have to hit space for one time to stop it.
Locking with "L" and Firing Missiles with "Return" doesn't work in many times.
I play with max. Frames set to 12 fps.
Any suggestions?

Unfortunately none at the moment. The Kilrathi Saga version of Wing Commander 2 was released with quite a few bugs, or at least bug that are present on modern hardward. The framerates are broken, keyboard and mouse controls are rough, mouse up acts as a double click. The best way to play it at this time is with a real joystick in terms of input. James' wcdx fixes a few things but there is much more work to be done on it to get it in a playable state. Best combination I've found was cnc-ddraw with the original wc2_ks.exe. There is a frame limiter in that and it helps until we can find a solution to the frame rates in the game itself.

The frame rates are no problem. I can set the framerates with Alt + N and Alt + M.
Just playing with 12 fps to make the escort missions easier. I'm playing the gog version.
Joystick is an alternative although I heard it would be tough to calibrate...

dosbox-staging has added a REST API for accessing memory, to be included in the next release. This means that it should now be doable to use the dos versions of WC1 and WC2 and add voice-overs.
See here https://github.com/dosbox-staging/dosbox-staging/pull/4730
OH! Neat!, I'll take a look at that when I get some free time. If I can get the address it shouldn't be a hard patch! Thanks for the info!

Playing now Wing Commander 3, I have to thank again for this great piece of software.
Some questions are left:
- Is there a way to decrease the mouse sensitivity at the missions?
- Starting from Flight Deck my mouse isn't centered so that my ship will turn around and be damaged.
- Is there a way beneath double clicking to deactivate the short movies when moving in the TCS (example: Liftdoor)
- How do I exit the game normally? Pressing Alt+X does not bring the menu for leaving, instead the program switches in windowed mode.

You should be able to deactivate the transition videos by going to the options from one of the onboard terminals (same one you use to save/load).

Hello again,
since I'm in the Ariel system, Wing Commander 3 crashed several Times flying the missions freezing from one moment to the other. There is no reproducable spot, it freezes at various moments.
Any suggestions?

Hey there! So, after a very long time, I'm finally going to play the Wing Commander games again, and stumbled upon Destro's upgrade, which sounds absolutely wonderful. However, It's also a very long time since I dealt with anything more complex than simply double clicking on an icon and start a game, so I'm afraid I'm a little overwhelmed. I thought that I followed the instructions on page 4 (with the link to the 0.92-release) to the letter, but I guess I must have done SOMETHING wrong, since I can't get WingLoader to run. I just get a blank command screen with a blinking prompt, and nothing else (note: So far, I only installed the GOG-version of "Wing Commander", and no other game in the series). Does that sound familiar? Any idea where I screwed up?!

EDIT: Please disregard my previous message. By looking through the thread, I found Tubby_Vermin's post, who had the same problem. I just waited for a couple of minutes (just for the first start-up), and now it works fine.

One more question, though: Part of the WingLoader.zip were 3 zip-folders with a Kilrathi Saga upgrade. There's nothing about them in the post on page 4. I guess I just extract its contents in the according game folder?

I'm not as familiar with WC3 in terms of performance and structure. If you are using Mash's patch I'd check in with them about that. Wing Loader does not really do much to that game, just adds the missing Kilrathi saga files and run's it.

Those .zip's are the missing files for WC1, WC2 & WC3 to upgrade them to the Windows versions (AKA Kilrathi Saga) Wing Commander 4 should not require any upgrades as the gog version has the windows (DVD) version already. Those .zip are extracted when you hit the gear icon and patch the games via Wing Loader.

I used now the ddraw.dll from the patch from Jari Kompa to finish my mission.
I hope I can play the next missions with the enhanced graphics.

If it worked with ddraw, i'd recommend bringing it to Matt's attention in case it is something he can fix in his enhancement pack. But I'm glad you got through the mission.

Thank you! Then I know what I have to do :).

Any plans to add the rest of the WC games to the launcher like Privateer or Academy? No enhancements or anything the launcher is just really cool to look at lol

Also the WC1 in flight voicelines stop working on lower FPS limits. Somewhere around 15 fps.

Hey @bosd! Yes, I had considered adding the expanded universe games (Academy, Armada, Privateer even WC Saga). I'm currently trying to get Wing Loader working as a 32bit build, cleaning up audio files with no clicking at the start, plus a few other updates but I can probably add in the other games while I'm at it. In regards to the Voice overs stop working when at lower frame rates, I could not reproduce this issue. I set the game to run at 8FPS and they still triggered for me. I'll keep looking to see if I can figure out wha'ts going on there. Cheers

Thanks for the response @Destro ! By the way turning cheats on with putting Origin -b -k in the configuration file seemed to fix it somehow, and the problem dissapears in the secret missions version.

No problem. And weird. Wing Loader has changed a lot in the last few years (I've learned many things) as mentioned I'm working on a Legacy Build and updating my compiler. Apparently Mingw is much more lax when it comes to assigning data correctly so it could be an issue that the new compiler will take care of. That said, it really shouldn't have anything to do with cheats, as long as the text appears on screen it should catch it. Thanks for the update!
